Client: News & Tidbits
Are You Aware?
In today's newsletter, we have three valuable tidbits of information from our area of expertise, Estate Planning and Residential Real Estate law:
1. Phone Privacy
As I am sure you are aware, after someone's death, access to their phone becomes a major privacy issue. In the recent years, Apple has been embroiled in controversy by allowing and not allowing law enforcement personnel access to a decedent's phone if that decedent has been the focus of a police investigation. However, in estate planning, many important items (photos, passwords, etc.) are stored on a loved one's phone that the family wants access to. We have all estate planning clients follow these steps to allow a desired loved one access to your iPhone in the case of your untimely death.
Follow these simple steps:
A. Go to settings
B. Click on your picture/name
C. Select Password & Security
D. Click on "Legacy Contact"
E. Add a legacy contact
Just like that, you have covered yourself in the event of your death so that a loved one will have access to all the critical elements of your cell phone.
2. Cook County is at it again!
